It is with broken hearts that we announce the peaceful passing our beloved husband, father and grandfather William “Bill” Brushett, 70, of Victoria Mines, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on August 29, 2016. Bill was born July 19, 1946.
Bill was employed with First Strike Security, also employed with DEVCO for 22 years at Prince Mine until its closure, and prior to that we was a heavy duty mechanic for many years. In his early years, Bill was heavily involved in stock car racing which he loved and passed on to his sons. He loved telling stories and reminiscing of the old day, fishing and camping on the Mira. Bill had a passion for tinkering around cars in his garage, also passing this passion onto his sons. He loved visits from his grandchildren and his best friend of 14 years “Bandit” who will surely miss him too.
Bill is survived by his loving wife Maureen; sons William (Tracey), Thomas (Tiffany), Ronald (Lisa); daughter Lisa Steel (Charles); sister Betty Bennett (Jimmy); brothers Tom (Eva), Brian (Jessie), David (Nancy); grandchildren Charles, Chelsea, Jessie, Jacob, Maggie, Landen, Luke, Ethan, Tanya, Johnny, Rebecca, Kallie, Aiden and Avery.
He was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary (Ivy) Brushett; best friend and uncle Clarence Ivy; brother Gordon; sister Irma; a brother in infancy; in-laws Theresa and Archie Perfect.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 2 from 2-4 and 7-9. A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, September 3 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating followed by a luncheon at the parish hall, Convent Street, all are welcome. Arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500. Donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit.
