Walter McNeil

Emblem
Walter Gerard McNeil, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away suddenly on January 22, 2024, at his home. He was born on January 18, 1955, the son of the late Walter and Anna McNeil (nee MacKinnon) of New Waterford. His sudden passing has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him.

Walter was a dedicated and proud coal miner for over 25 years. For more than two decades, he tirelessly contributed to this demanding profession. Depending who you asked they knew him as Hard Liquor, if you were a fellow coal miner or 'The Gator' in the bowling world.

Walter was known for his jovial nature and infectious laughter. He had a zest for life and always found joy in making others smile. His sense of humor was unparalleled, and he had an uncanny ability to lighten the mood with a well-timed joke. Walter's warm personality endeared him to all who knew him, and he will forever be remembered as someone who brought happiness into the lives of others. He enjoyed bowling and loved to travel for the sport.

Beyond his lightheartedness, Walter took immense pride in his son and grandchildren. He often spoke passionately about their accomplishments and cherished moments spent together as a family. They brought him such joy.

Walter is survived by his devoted son Stephen (Nadine) McNeil, Kingston Ontario; grandchildren Kole and Logan. He Is survived by his loving sisters Sandra McNeil, Mary (Wayne) Tighe, and Patsy (Wayne) Champion, all of New Waterford. They shared a profound bond of love and support throughout their lives. Additionally, Walter leaves behind nieces, nephews, and many good friends. Among these cherished companions was Catherine Hill of Glacé Bay, who held a special place in Walter's heart.

Walter was predeceased by his loving wife Rose McNeil (nee Roach) and his brother John "Red John" McNeil. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his best friend Michael Abraham. Thank you Mike for all that you have done for Walter over the years and for your support you have shown our family during this difficult time.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of McLellan Funeral Home, 3188 Plummer Ave., New Waterford. A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Walter's life will be held on Monday, January 29 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Jim Oliver officiating. A reception to follow at the K.O.C., 3236 Plummer ave, New Waterford. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.mclellanfuneralhome.com or by signing the guestbook below.

May his soul find eternal peace, and may we find solace in the beautiful memories we shared with him.

Remember Me

Don’t remember me with sadness,
Don’t remember me with tears,
Remember all the laughter,
We’ve shared throughout the years.
Now I am contented
That my life it was worthwhile,
Knowing as I passed along the way
I made somebody smile.
When you are walking down the street
And you’ve got me on your mind,
I’m walking in your footsteps
Only half a step behind.
So please don’t be unhappy
Just because I’m out of sight,
Remember that I’m with you
Each morning, noon and night.
