It is with great sadness the family of Terry Ryan wish to announce his passing on February 9th, 2013. Born in Jellicoe, Ontario, he was the son of the late Stanley and Gerry (Kennedy) Ryan. He is survived by his sons Sean (Daphne), Antigonish, Colin (Mihoko) Japan, grandchildren Angus, Marley, Luke, Rachael and Fiona and Jane MacDonald, Pictou, mother of his sons. Terry was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS. During his time at St. FX he was involved with athletics in the varsity level in both hockey and football. One football team in particular that Terry played on was inducted into the Nova Scotia Hall of Fame for going unbeaten for the entire season and beyond. Terry worked most of his life as a geologist working in Canada and the Unites States in the field of mining and mineralogy. Terry spent much of his working life in Northern Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador prospecting for the various mining and research companies that he worked for. Terry had a great devotion for mentorship and community involvement. During the time he spent living in Milton Ontario, he devoted much of his time to Boy Scouts Canada as a Leader and District Commissioner. His skills as an outdoorsman were passed onto many boy scouts over his years of service as a leader. In the most recent years, Terry volunteered his time with the New Waterford Army and Navy Association, taking on many roles including that of President. Terry also had a great passion for the open road, whether it be on a pedal bike or more recently his motorcycle. Over the last number of years in the New Waterford area and beyond, if you saw Terry, you saw him on a bike. These things were second only to the love he had for his children, grandchildren and friends. Cremation has taken place and a chapel service in memory of Terry will be held on Saturday, February 16th at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating followed by a luncheon at the New Waterford Army & Navy, Smith St. All are welcome. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Terry's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association. Online condolences can be sent to: www.mclellanfuneralhome.com
