Raymond White
New Victoria
Our hearts are broken as we announce the peaceful passing of Raymond White on Sunday May 2, 2021, at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, after a final battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Born on Sept 20, 1940, he was the son of the late Vina (Fitzner) and George White.
Ray spent 36 years as a coal miner, where he started at 16 yrs of age. He loved his family, music, dancing and playing the piano to the delight of all who were listening. Ray was an avid sports fan and rarely missed a “Hawks” baseball game in the early years, or a grandchild’s game!
Ray leaves behind his rock, the love of his life, his wife of 60+ years, Florence (Snookie). Together they raised 4 children, Raylene (Greg), Sheldon (Doreen), Alex (Lynn) and Shari (Byron).
He enjoyed 8 grandchildren, about whom he would sing their praises and successes in life: Jennifer (Frankie), Tyler (Allison), Colin (Melissa), Liam (Hannah), Tyler (Janine), Brady (Felicity), Kyle (Denise) and Ethan. He was among their greatest supporters as evidenced by his presence at countless sporting events, graduations, weddings, etc.
He was also blessed to have 3 great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Nathan, and Noah.
Ray is survived by his sisters Irene (Ozzie) and Middy; In-laws: Mary White, Mary (Bezansen) White, Edward & Lylie, Bob & Patsy, Eckie & Jean, Edie, Brenda & Sonny, and Beatrice & Darren. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends.
Besides his parents, Ray was predeceased by his in-laws Della and Bob Burchell; brothers; Wally, Sonny, Sen, Russel, Herbert, and Billy; sisters: Dora, Sister and Dorothy.
Special mention to his nephew Raymond, who called nearly every day to check on his “Uncle Ray”; Heather MacNeil, who visited every weekend to deliver communion; Evelyn, Sen & Marianne, who regularly visited; Michael, who supplied his love of fish; and lastly his special canine buddy, Rosey, who followed him around waiting for her treats.
Special thanks to the nursing staff of the 2nd floor at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, to Dr. Little-John, Dr. Haq, Dr. Shimon and Dr. Lowry.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation due to Covid 19 restrictions. A private family service will be held with Father Peter McLeod officiating, and interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
