It is with broken hearts and great sadness that the family announces the passing of their
husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Pleman Woodland on Nov.12, 2020
at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Born in New Waterford on May 10,1939, he was the son of the late Henry and Rachael (Beaton) Woodland.
He worked in the coal mines until he got injured and after the injury he built a life around helping others and volunteering in the community. He served on the St. Leonard Cemetery Committee, the Fish and Game Association and the New Waterford Lake/Kilkenny Lake Water Shed Committee. In his early years he worked tirelessly with the New Waterford Minor Hockey and for many years he took the Brownies and their leaders on nature hikes, was the recipient of the New Waterford Citizen of the Year award, also received the Outstanding Environmental Stewardship award from the Fish and Game Association. He had a passion for gardening and took delight in sharing his harvest, he also was an avid New York Rangers fan as well as a St. Louis Cardinals fan.
He was a self-proclaimed environmentalist and enjoyed his many walks among the trails of New Waterford. Pleman’s family knew him as a kind and compassionate man who found gratitude in every day, he was dedicated to his family, had a pleasant personality with a quick wit and always made people around him feel welcome. One of Pleman’s favorite sayings was “BE KIND” and this is exactly how he choose to live his life. He also taught his children to enjoy every moment life has to offer.
Pleman is survived by the love of his life, wife Rita of 62 years, whom he treasured dearly, sons Pleman (Nancy Walsh), Kevin (Donna Sullivan) and daughter Karen (Joe Shea); sisters Susan, Barbara, Violie, brother Winston (Paula); grandchildren Lisabeth (Brad), Giselle (Kent), Pleman (Jenna), Jonathan (Carrie), Jillian and Janice; great-grandchildren Dylan, Lily, Matthew, Samantha, Julia; as well as many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is also predeceased by his grandchild Joseph, brothers Leo Billy, Herbie and sister Doris.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 17th from 12 – 1 PM followed by a chapel service at 1 pm with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery.
Due to COVID-19, everyone must wear a MASK AND FOLLOW ALL PROTOCOL RULES.
