It is with hearts full of sadness, that we, the family of Olive Chiasson announce her passing on Sunday, March 21, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Olive was the daughter of Lubin (àMébis) and Elise Deveaux of Belle Marche, Cheticamp, N.S. She started working in her early teens on the famous hooked rugs of Cheticamp. At the age of twenty she moved to New Waterford and married Willie 'Chips' Chiasson who predeceased her in 1966. After moving to New Waterford, she worked with her husband in the family milk dairy and then operated Maple Hill Dairy on King Street. At the age of 59, she attended the AVTC, where she completed upgrading and a barbering and hair styling course. Olive lived life to the full, enjoying line dancing, seniors aerobics, Cape Breton fiddle music, history and playing cards on Saturday night with her card club. She had many friends, including her best friend, Mary MacNeil. She had a passionate love for Cape Breton and its future. One of her greatest hopes was for economic development of Cape Breton and New Waterford. She contributed generously, each years to the regional hospital foundation and many charitable organizations. She was a woman of great faith and loved her church dearly and was a faithful member of Mount Carmel parish and more recently the Parish of St. Leonard. She is survived by her three children, Richard (Josephine), Anne Marie Coutinho, both of New Waterford and Ronnie of Calgary. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dian Chiasson, Jenna Martell (Stephen) and Robert Coutinho; her great-grandchildren, Evan and Andrew Martell and one brother, Joseph, all of New Waterford.
