It is with great sadness the family wish to announce the passing of their mother, grandmother and sister, Nellie Gillis on April 13, 2015 at the Maple Hill Manor surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Waterford she was the daughter of the late Freddie and Mildred (Boutilier) MacKenzie.
Nellie had worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia as a teller, she was an avid card player, especially bridge and tarbish. She loved crocheting and was a great seamstress.
She is survived by sons Gerard (Wendy), Johnny (Laura Lee); daughters Thelma (Danny) Dowie, Colette (Robert); sisters Charlotte (Neil) MacKenzie, Theresa Fitzpatrick and brother Freddie (Sharon); grandchildren Brent, Bonnie, Lauren, David, Kenzie, Tessa, Alison and Kelly.
Besides her parents she was also predeceased by her husband Colin Gillis; sisters Hilda, Evie and brother Joseph; brothers-in-law Bernie Gillis, Carl Campbell and John Fitzpatrick.
Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held today, Friday, April 15 from 5-9 PM and a funeral mass to celebrate Nellie's life will take place Saturday, April 16 at 10 AM in the Parish of Saint Leonard's, Mount Carmel Ave. with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Internment in St. Michael's Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the parish hall, Convent St., All are welcome.
