It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Murdina Jurcina on January 12, 2016 at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Dina was born February 12, 1954 and was the daughter of the late John W. and Jessie (Drover) Gouthro.
Murdina’s career started while she worked for Sobeys. She left to become a full time mother, a job she said was the best she had ever had. After being a stay at home mom for nearly 17 years, Murdina returned to school and graduated at age 52 as an LPN. Dina worked as an LPN at New Waterford Heights for a number of years. She thoroughly enjoyed her co-workers and taking care of those who couldn’t look after themselves. Dina was an excellent cook and baker. Her happiest times were when she was surrounded by her family and hosting family events. Dina also loved the years she spent with her family camping in Castle Bay and taking motorcycle trips with her husband John.
Murdina is survived by her husband John; daughter Jillian (Graham) Tourneur, sons Ian (Erin) Gouthro, Kincardine, ON, and Andrew, Manitoba. She is also survived by her mother Jessie Gouthro; brothers Jimmy (Janice), Mira, Darren, New Waterford; her precious grandchildren Deven, Ethan and Lochlan of Kincardine, and Sebastien, Glace Bay; Murdina’s grandchildren were her pride and joy and were always in her heart. Also many nieces and nephews are left to mourn as well. She also leaves behind her faithful companion dog Lois Lane.
Besides her father, Dina was predeceased by her sister Nancy and sister Audrey in infancy.
As per Dina’s request there will be no visitation. A chapel service will take place on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 11 AM in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating.
