It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Melvin Eldridge on June 22, 2022, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving family by his side.

The son of the late Jack and Mary (McIntyre) Eldridge. Melvin was a probation officer with the family court for 30 years. Melvin was a very kind-hearted, strong, generous man who adored his family, especially his wife Jean. He was a true gentleman, our mentor and someone we all aspire to become. He excelled at sports in his youth playing baseball, rugby and basketball and started playing golf at age 65. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Scotchtown Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

He attended every sporting event with his grandchildren. His favorite times were spent at the bungalow in Mira with family. Melvin is survived by his children, Terry (Patricia), Sheldon (Kate), Sherry (Danny) Lund - Grandchildren Michael, Andrew, Ryan, Paul, Kyle, Kayla, Craig and Tyler and great grandchildren Hunter, William, Ethan, Lukas, Nash, Leah, Daniel, and Emma, brother-in-law Arnold Deruelle.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Jean, his loving daughter Valerie and siblings Roddy, John, Cyril, Ray, Alice, Viola, and Patricia (in infancy). Special thanks to Dr. Steve MacDougall, Cardiac N.P. Sandra Toner and all the wonderful doctors and nurses in Palliative Care for their excellent care, professionalism, and compassion. In Melvin's memory donations can be made to Palliative Care.

Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 10am in the Parish of Saint Leonard with Father Jim Oliver officiating. Interment will be in Union Grove Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Army, Navy, Airforce on Wilson Avenue.
