It’s with heavy hearts that we, the family of Matt Hawley, announce his sudden passing on Monday, Nov. 21, 2022 at home.
Matt was born in New Waterford to the late Matthew and Mary Hawley.
He met the love of his life Deanie and they married in 1970. They had 3 sons and Deanie referred to her guys as Matt and the boys. They adored their father and he loved them.
Matt will rise again in the faces of his children.
Matt had a passion for music. One of his greatest pleasures was performing at many kitchen parties, guitar in hand with a favourite beverage and his family and friends by his side. During his performance he would always dedicate the song “look at us”to his one and only love Deanie.
He played in many bands but as a singing coal miner his true calling was to become a member of the Men of the Deeps. For the past 24 years Matt proudly performed as a member of the choir and a brother to the rest of the members. Because of you his light will shine forever.
He is survived by his wife Deanie (Chiasson), sons Matthew (Andrea), Jason (Cathy), and Richard.
Grandchildren Andrew, Stephanie, Cady, Jason, Justin, Jack, and Matty. Siblings - Susan (Bruce) Johnson, Francis (Carmen) Hawley, Brian (Loretta) Hawley, Joanne Hawley and Tanya Hawley. Sister in laws Mary Ann (Glenn) MacKenzie and Noella Chiasson and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by mother and father in law, Leo and Annie Chiasson, brother and sister in laws, Simon (Joan) Chaisson, Melvin Chiasson and Leona (Char) MacAulay.
In lieu of donations or flowers we ask that you pay it forward with an act of kindness, the way Matt lived his life everyday. A visitation and chapel service to honour and celebrate Matt will be held on Thursday, November 24th, 2022, from 12-2 p.m. in McLellan Funeral Home. 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, with Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. A reception will follow at The New Waterford Fire Hall, 3336 Walsh Ave. New Waterford.
Remember Me
Don’t remember me with sadness,
Don’t remember me with tears,
Remember all the laughter,
We’ve shared throughout the years.
Now I am contended
That my life it was worthwhile,
Knowing that I passed along the way
I made somebody smile.
When you are walking down the street
And you’ve got me on your mind,
I’m walking in your footsteps
Only half a step behind.
So please don’t be unhappy
Just because I’m out of sight,
Remember that I’m with you
Each morning, noon, and night.
