Mary "Tena" Bois

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many, Mary Christena Bois, on January 15, 2016. Tena was born on July 12, 1955, the daughter of the late Simon & Helen (MacIntyre) Desveaux.

Tena received her early education at St. Agnes School and Breton Education Centre. She graduated first in her class from the Nursing Program at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital in 1974. After several years working in her chosen profession, a work injury made it necessary for Tena to retrain as a secretary. For many years she worked for Hinchey & Hinchey, Barristers & Solicitors, first for its founder, M.J. Hinchey, and then for his son, Sweeney Hinchey. Following her years there, she worked as an administrative assistant at the New Waterford Resource Centre. She finished her working years at Spiegal in New Waterford, when she was forced to retire due to ill health. Tena made many friends during her working years and kept in contact with them. She valued these friendships and once you were Tena’s friend, you were a friend for life. Tena was a leader in the Girl Guide movement for many years where she was a positive influence on the girls she came in contact with. She was a talented seamstress, and many family and friends enjoyed her creations. Most of all, Tena was a dedicated mother and grandmother. Family was of the utmost importance to her. She doted on her granddaughter, Haven, who brought such delight to her over the last 4 years.

Tena is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Gerry Bois, son Paul, daughter Jenna (Phil Ledrew) and the light of her life and constant companion, granddaughter Haven. Left to mourn are her siblings, Ron and Mary Desveaux (David, Douglas and Jonathan), Maria and Wendell McLellan (Karyn and Beth), Florence and Charlie Campbell (Greg, Sean and Helen), Fred and Janice Desveaux (Simon), Bill and Darlene Desveaux and her sister-in-law Gwen and Donnie Ellsworth (Daniel, Celeste and Peter Desveaux). Tena is survived by the Bois Family, Patsy, Bobby and Mable (Chrisie and Cheri), Brian and Claudette (Shane, Amanda and Scott), Joey, Sharron, Mike. Tena is also survived by her special aunts, Margaret “Mockey” MacIntyre, Florence Beaton and Rita Lauzon, and many cousins.

Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her dear brother Peter, her mother and father-in law, Ivan and Florence Bois and brother-in-law Jimmy Bois.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 18, 2016, from 6-9 PM and a mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday, January 19, at 10 AM in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, New Waterford with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. A reception will follow at St. Leonard’s parish hall. All are welcome. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
