Mary Jeanette Collins, 98, passed away peacefully Dec. 29, 2009, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care with her daughter Marie by her side. She was born Oct. 1, 1911, to the late Roderick and Mary (Maclellan) MacDonald of Margaree Harbour where she grew up as a child. Jeanette was a dignified lady with many great qualities which were displayed in her day-to-day living. She had a deep faith and was a devout member of former St. Joseph's Church, New Victoria, attending mass and prayer were very important to her daily routine. She was also a member of the Catholic Woman's League. Jeanette was a graduate of Normal College, Truro. She began her teaching career in Margaree before moving to Victoria Mines to teach. She left teaching to raise her family of four. She later resumed her teaching career in Victoria Mines retiring in 1977, she was a dedicated and caring teacher. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. Jeanette enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing cards and shopping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and chatting with her neighbours. You were a role model and an inspiration to all of us. You will live in our hearts forever. Rest peacefully now with Da and Gerry. She is survived by her daughters, Marie Collins, Sydney, and Joan and her husband Larry Shanahan, Victoria Mines; son, Jack, New Waterford and Ann Marie O' Neill, Reserve Mines. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Shirley Collins, Calgary. She will be lovingly remembered by her 11 grandchildren whom she proudly watch grow into young adults, Joanne, Melissa, Jason, Tammie, Nicole, Angelina, Laura, Tamara, Matthew, Natasha and Angie. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack (1974), son, Gerry (1997), daughter-in-law, Adeline Collins (1997) her brother, Duncan and sister, Catherine. We sincerely like to thank the Irish Cove Staff at Harbourstone for the kindness and care given to Ma for the last four years. You are special people. Visitation will take place Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Mclellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A funeral service of remembrance will take place Saturday, Jan 2 at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment will be at a later date, a luncheon will be held immediately following the service at the St. Leonard's Parish Hall, 310 Convent St., New Waterford, all are welcome.
