It is with deep sadness that we, the family of the late Mary MacNeil announce her passing on Monday, November 25, 2019 at Maple Hill Manor. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late William and Clara (Petrie) Hinchey. Mary graduated from Mount St. Bernard Secretarial College in 1943, and began her career with Veterans Affairs Canada, which lasted for 39 years. She was very proud of her time spent there and continued to be a volunteer for veterans and retirees, after her retirement. Mary loved to go bowling with her late husband Michael, travelling to see family, and pensioner aerobics. She was an avid reader and a loyal fan of the Toronto Blue Jays. Mary was a member of the Parish of Saint Leonard and the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by her special nieces; Joan-Anne (Wayne) Morrison, Margie (Derrick) Deveaux, Willena (Wally) Jardine, Cathy (Brian) Gilfoy, Clara (Steve) McVarish, Veronica (Ian) Jollymore,; her nephews Billy (Colleen) Hinchey, John (Trish) Hinchey, John (Trish) Chicarella, as well as many more nieces and nephews, and her special grand niece Lindsay Rose (Chris). Besides her parents and her husband Michael, she was predeceased by her brothers Aloysius in infancy, Pat (Ola), Mike (Kay), Peter (Allison), John (Elizabeth), Billy (Willena); sisters Von (Bill) Scott, Theresa (Tom) O’Leary, Helen (Jimmy) Boyd, Joanie (Frankie) Chicarella and her nephew Michael Chicarella. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff at Maple Hill Manor for the excellent care provided to Mary over the years and ask that donations in Mary’s memory be made to the Manor. There will be no visitation. Funeral Mass will be Friday, November 29, 2019 at 10am in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at the Army, Navy and Airforce on Smith Street.
