It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Mary 'Cissy' Henry on Oct. 24, 2009, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late James and Veronica (MacPherson) Gardiner. 'Cissy' was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed fishing and camping with her family in her younger days, but nothing could compare to a good game of tarabish, a game she loved to play anytime. She was a woman who was always helping others and there to lend a hand when she could. 'Cissy' is survived by her loving children, daughters, Deborah Henry, Alberta, Arlene Woodford, Moncton, Delores Hickey, Sydney, Rose (Rea) Kendig, Burlington, Mass.; sons, Jimmy (Leona), New Waterford, George (Nancy), Kentville; sisters, Rhodina Ling, New Waterford, Theresa Moore, Sydney, Veronica Rigby, New Waterford; brother, Malcolm (Ann) Gardiner, New Waterford; daughter-in-law, Germaine Henry, New Waterford; son-in-law, Norman 'Skip' Bewsher, Sherwater; 29 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and many great friends. Besides her parents 'Cissy' was predeceased by her husband. Charles 'Bunker' Henry, sons, Charlie and Eddie, daughters, Rhodina and Trina, granddaughter, Wanda, sons-in-law, James Hickey, Mick Burns. Visitation for the late Mary 'Cissy' Henry will take place Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A funeral mass celebrating Mary's life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard's, Mount Carmel Church, New Waterford, with Fr. Doug MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, River Ryan. A luncheon will be held following at the Knights Of Columbus Hall, 3226 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, and all are welcomed to attend. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society or Cape Breton Palliative Care.
