It is with deep sadness that we, the family, of Mary Elizabeth Ryan, announce her passing on November 2, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in New Waterford, on January 31, 1948, she was the daughter of Alice and the late John Hugh Ryan.

Mary loved spending time with her family. She looked forward to the many family gatherings she shared with her children and grandchildren, especially Christmas in July, in Sangaree, which was one of her favorites. She really loved Bon Jovi’s music and was a big fan of the Montreal Canadiens. Mary taught religion for many years and always had her house open to the neighborhood children. Having a backyard rink, she tried to keep a large box of skates on hand so that no child would be left without.

Mary is survived by her mother Alice; children Hughie (Lillian), Eric (June),
Nicole (Fred), Nadine (Shawn); grandchildren Timothy, Brooke, Alexis, Ryan, Bianca, Brittney, Nathan; sisters Hughena MacPherson, Judy (Raymond) MacPhee, Debbie, Joy; brothers Jimmy, Buttons; several nieces and nephews.

Besides her father, Mary was predeceased by her brother Hughie, sister Shauna, and brother in law Bacon MacPherson.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at 1pm in St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice.
