Mary Barbara O'Connell

It's with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary O'Connell of New Waterford on October 2nd, 2015, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital surrounded by friends and family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Cameron) MacLean.

Mary was a kind and caring soul who always put the needs of family and friends before her own. Her caring, compassion and humour will be greatly missed, but carried on in the lives of all those that she touched.

Mary leaves behind two very proud sons, Wayne and Dan, her granddaughter and best friend Abbey, brother Cameron (Beverly) MacLean, sister Theresa Burns, countless close friends & family, and her special dog and bodyguard, Toby.

Mary is predeceased by her husband, Wayne O'Connell, sister Margie Goulais, and step-father Frank Gardiner.

Cremation has taken place. A chapel service will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 2pm in funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating followed by a luncheon at the parish hall Convent Street. All are welcome. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. Donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice. The family would like to thank the many friends and family for the constant support mom received during her difficult times, and the nurses and doctors at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital and the Cape Breton Cancer Centre for the care she received.

Love isn't a big enough word for how we felt about you and there are no words to describe how much we will miss you.
