Maria Delire Maceachern

It is with great sorrow that we, the family of Maria (Deveau) MacEachern, regret to announce her sudden passing on April 22, 2013. Born in Montreal on June 4th, 1952, Maria moved to Cheticamp with her mother three years later and remained there for most of her childhood. In later years, she resided in New Waterford, Scotchtown, Lingan, which she called home for almost thirty years, and most recently, in Sydney. Over the years, Maria held positions at the General Instruments Plant, The Fortress of Louisbourg, Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and Nova Aqua Salmon Farm but her most beloved role was in raising her three daughters whom she adored and was so proud of. Maria was very proud of her Acadian heritage. She loved animals and was passionate when it came to her various hobbies and interests. She loved to bake and was known for making the best blueberry cheesecake around which she always made with the fresh blueberries she picked in various locations around Cape Breton. She never missed an opportunity to embark on summer and fall road trips several times a year to her beloved Cheticamp and around the Cabot Trail. Maria loved gardening, making crafts and household decorations, live music and attending various community events around the CBRM. Throughout her life, Maria was involved in a number of causes and always fought for what she felt was best for her community and the people she loved. If someone had an issue, a problem or just needed a helping hand or shoulder to cry on, she was there for them. Maria also loved to travel and it was her dream to embark on a camping trip in the Grand Canyon and this was something she finally planned to do this summer. Besides her three daughters, Andrea, Deidre and Jocelyn, Maria is also survived by her former husband, Kevin MacEachern and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins and numerous friends from all over Cape Breton, the rest of Canada and the United States. Maria was predeceased by her father Hubert Deveau, her mother Mina (Maillet) Roach and her step-father Leo Roach. A chapel service to celebrate Maria's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, April 29, 2013 at 1 pm with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lingan followed by a reception in the Lingan Hall and all are welcomed. FuneraL arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500 Donations in memory of Maria can be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society. and the Salvation Army.
