Margaret Harte
New Waterford

With great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister, Margaret Josephine Harte (Hogan), on April 2, 2021 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born on August 16, 1934, she grew up in Scotchtown with her parents Julia Hogan and Charlie Smith (stepfather). She met and married her husband, Robert Harte, and spent time raising and making a home for their nine children. She enjoyed having family gatherings, especially Christmas Eve with all her children and grandchildren. Although we are grown and have families of our own, we will remember these times the most. She was very proud of her friends and family and loved having photos for everyone to see.

Margaret was a member of the Army, Navy and Airforce Unit and the Royal Canadian Legion. She enjoyed playing bingo and Saturday night Karaoke at the French Club with her friends, Sadie, Kay, and Margie. Whenever we would visit her, she would have a crisp $5.00 bill for her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed evening phone conversations with her daughter Margie, who lives in Fort McMurray.

Margaret is survived by her sons Charlie (Terry), Willie, Wilbert (Linda), Jerry; daughters Margie (Sid), Mary (Stephen) and Eileen (Vernon); brothers Mick Hogan and Wilbert Smith (Eileen), 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Robert, son Bobby, daughter Julie Anne, sister Mary MacMullin and sister-in-law Marie Hogan.

Cremation has taken place and visitation will be Wednesday, April 14th from 11am -12 pm, followed by a private family chapel service with Rev. Dorothy Miller officiating. Interment in All Saints Cemetery. Covid-19 protocol to be followed, masks and social distancing required.

The family would like to thank New Waterford Home Care for their support and care over the past two years.

Donations in Margaret’s memory can be made to the Feral Cat Society.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
