Louis Henry "Buddy" Carabin

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of a loving husband,
father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Louis Henry (Buddy) Carabin on March 14,
2019 at the CBRH An Cala Unit. Born on April 5, 1931 in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Lillian Carabin.

He married the light of his life, Melva, 66 years ago and lived most of his life in Dominion, moving to Sydney 17 years ago. Buddy was a salesman for 35+ years with H.J. Heinz Co. and traveled the Island in this capacity. He had a heart of gold and was kind and generous to everyone he met. In his earlier years before moving to Sydney, Buddy was very active in his community, having been a volunteer fire fighter with Dominion Fire Dept. for over 30 years. He was a member of the Shriners and also a member of the Masons and five years ago received his 50-year jewel.

Dad loved to travel and both he and mom enjoyed many a trip down south, as far north as Alaska and across the “water” to visit family in England. But his favorite place was the family bungalow in Ingonish. He looked forward to opening the bungalow every year, enjoying lobsters in May and he never tired of simply sitting on the veranda enjoying the view over the Bay. In Ingonish he cherished time spent with family and friends, swimming, fishing, lobster boils on the beach and countless “projects”. Dad leaves us having lived a long, happy and productive life filled with a love of family and friends.

He had many joys in his life but the greatest was his family. Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Melva; daughter Elise (Jim) MacKinnon and grandchildren Peter and Erin; son Bruce (Patti Ann), grandchildren Mark (Lauren), Colin, Patrice (Matt) Aboud and great-grandsons Jensen and Parker; son Paul, grandsons Glen (Brittany), Brent (Ryan), Ian, Grant (Carla) and great-granddaughters Blake and Sadie. He is also survived by sisters Vickie Wadden, Helen Nicholson, Pearl Moulaison, sister-in-law Betty Carabin and half-brother Les (Terri) Carabin, along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in Buddy’s heart.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by brother Lloyd, sisters Joyce Boutilier, Elise Magneson and in-laws Florence and Hec Andrews.

There will be no visitation and a service will take place Monday, March 18th at 11 a.m. in Christ Church, Trinity Street, Sydney with a light lunch to follow, where we can share stories and memories in celebration of his life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
