Linda Ann Mackinnon

It is with great sadness that we the family of Linda Ann MacKinnon, Hillside Road, Albert Bridge announce her passing at the age of 58 years old. Linda passed away peacefully in the palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Sunday February 08, 2015, following a long journey towards a peaceful death with her husband John by her side. Born in New Waterford, Linda was the daughter of the late Mary “Mamie” (Carpenter) and Alexander (Alec) MacKinnon. Linda was a gifted woman with many artistic accomplishments such as painting, sculpture, photography, gardening and quilting. A brilliant and animated storyteller, she was the historian of our family ancestry. She was a strong community minded person who volunteered with the New Waterford Coal Bowl Classic, supported tea and sales and fundraisers at the Sacred Heart Church in Marion Bridge and at St. Margaret’s in Grand Mira. She loved to host gatherings and family feasts where she would delight us with her culinary and baking talents. Illness never deterred Linda and she embraced life while celebrating her faith in God and the path that she had been guided towards. Linda was open to all spiritual paths herself being a Reiki master and Meditation teacher. Linda is survived by her husband John A. MacKinnon her four sisters Leanna (Rocky) Burchell, Alexis, (Michael) Marsden, Madonna (Donald) Martin and Margaret (Jim/Fred) Head. She is also survived by her mother- in–law Ida MacKinnon, brothers-in-law, Russell, Danny (Patsy) and Angus (Debbie) MacKinnon, sisters-in-law Sandra (Ricky) MacDonald, Cathy (Iwan) Florian and her two beloved dogs Chico and Comet. She was surrounded by the love and support of her husband, sisters, aunties and uncles and numerous cousins and nieces and nephews who loved her and will miss her dearly. Linda was also blessed with a beautiful circle of friends for 40 years who were faithful, loving and very present during this time, with particular gratitude to Marie Martin, Anne Mombourquette and Marilyn Coady MacDonald. Linda was pre-deceased by her parents and father-in-law Angus (Bickey) MacKinnon. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Feb 11, 2015 from 6- 9 pm and a chapel service to celebrate Linda’s life will be held on Thursday, Feb 12 at 1 p.m. in McLellan Brothers Chapel with Father Norman McPhee officiating. All are welcome. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500.
