Lillian Rosalie (Hillier) Donovan, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, died peacefully at home on April 9th, 2022, at the age of 74.
She was the daughter of the late Walter and Anna (Van Hove) Hillier of New Waterford.
Lillian was the devoted wife of Colin Francis Donovan (deceased) and the proud and doting mother to sons Shawn Patrick (Genevieve), Ryan Daniel (Eva) and Conal Edward Alphonsus (Aimee), and the loving grandmother of Cullan, Zoey, Lara, Kai, Rosalia and Alexander Donovan.
Sister of Harry Hillier (deceased); and sister-in-law to Dorothy MacInnis (Lloyd - deceased), Margie Hillier, and Georgia Marier (Mike); Lillian is further survived by nieces and nephews Karla, Perry, Lee-Anne, Laura, Gillian, Dan, and Matthew.
Lillian was a New Waterford area educator at Central School and Breton Education Centre for more than 30 years.
Special thanks to her dear friends of many years, Laurie, Jeanette, Velma, and Barbara, as well as to the Victoria Order of Nurses and Palliative Care for the excellent and compassionate support they provided to Lillian and her family.
In addition to the great love she showed family and friends, she will be fondly remembered for the many lives she touched as a charismatic and caring teacher, as an extraordinary baker, and for her love of active living with skiing, swimming, kayaking, berry-picking, Tai Chi, and more. Sangaree on the Mira has lost one of its great, kind souls, and a warm campfire and pleasant summer breeze will always be a heartfelt reminder of those moments that were dear to her.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 13th from 6-9 pm, with chapel service on Thursday, April 14th, at 11 am at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Interment will be in Saint Eugene Cemetery, Dominion, followed by a luncheon at the Knights of Columbus, New Waterford.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in Lillian’s memory be made to Cape Breton Regional Hospital Palliative Care, Canadian Cancer Society, or the Victoria Order of Nurses.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
