It is with heartfelt sadness we, the family announce the passing Keith Dolhanty Kearney, age 62 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Feb. 9, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Keith was a loving son, brother and uncle.
Keith was born in New Waterford on Dec. 8, 1954. He is survived by his loving mother Greta Kearney; sisters Margaret Beaton and Alana (Sid) Oliver; sister-in-law Alvina Kearney; his only nephew Sid Jr. (Patricia); nieces Kristen (godchild), Danielle. Jennifer, Kim (godchild) (Donnie), Allana (Robert) and Raylene; grandnephews Austin and Clark Oliver; grandniece Ruby Hartlin; a very special friend Margie MacDonald; godsons Shane MacDonald and Allen MacQueen.
He began his career in life as a sheet metal fabricator. After years of doing this, he made the switch to Devco. Lastly, he tried his hand at work out west followed by his retirement. Keith had many favorite pastimes, one was horses. He was the happiest when spending time with his baby Tre Tre Grande, she could put a sparkle in his eyes. He was also a great gardener, vegetables first, flowers second. Plenty of neighbors on Cameron’s Lane, along with family had tomatoes and cukes all summer. He knew where the great fishing holes were too. Many a tale he would tell with Sid Jr. He could take a piece of wood and create a very interesting masterpiece. This he loved doing with his brother Wayne as they build things together, Wayne sanded and Keith stained, what a pair. That’s all his nieces and nephew had to say “can you build” and there it was. They have memories of him in their own homes now.
Keith was predeceased by his father Allan Kearney; brother Wayne and brother-in-law Tommy Beaton.
A celebration of Keith’s life will be at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500 on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 at 1 p.m. with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. A light lunch will be served at Army & Navy following the service. Burial will be held at a later date in Forrest Haven Cemetery.
