Joseph Medric Muise
New Waterford
It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Joseph Medric Muise announce his passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on April 10, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 19, 1928 in Chéticamp, he was the son of the late Charles and Bertina (Deveau) Muise. He spent much of his early life in Chéticamp and Inverness before moving to New Waterford where he met the love of his life Alice and they built a wonderful life together. Joe was a hard worker and a dedicated family man. He worked in the coal mines for 25 years and later alongside his best friend Joe Cormier at Cape Breton Auto Radiator.
Joe was a very proud Acadian. He instilled a love for Acadian culture in his family through many visits to beautiful Chéticamp. He was a founding member of le Cercle Evangeline, a devout Catholic, and a faithful member of Saint Leonard (Mount Carmel) Parish.
Throughout his 93 years, he enjoyed the simple things in life. Joe loved watching baseball and hockey (especially if his grandson or Toronto were playing), fiddle music, walking the loop, playing cards, and skating. He was happiest when he was with family and friends - especially times spent with Joe and Theresa Cormier and Rosie and Alex Dan Chiasson.
Joe is survived by his wife, Alice (Poirier) of 70 years and his children Annette Lamey (Paul), New Victoria, Elaine MacLeod (Steve), New Waterford; grandchildren Katie (Joel), Sydney, and Stephen (Deborah), Toronto; great granddaughter, Sophie, who was his pride and joy; sister-in-law Yvonne Poirier and brother-in-law Gordon Kyle. Joe also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and his cherished godchildren Joan Chaisson-MacDonald and Rose Marie Phinney.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Wilfred, Phillip, and Albert; stepfather Sandy Boudreau; and several sisters- and brothers-in-law.
Special thanks to Dr. Archibald and Dr. Ritter; the nurses in 4D and Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital; the staff at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital; and Dr. Azer and his secretary Trish.
Cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date. Donations in Joe’s memory can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
