It is with great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Joe at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa on April 18, 2011. He is survived by his father, Bill MacLellan, River Ryan; sisters, Anita MacLellan, Fredericton, and Charlene Cameron, Toronto; brother, Charlie (Peggy) MacLellan, Lingan. Joe is also survived by nieces, Jennifer Brewer, Toronto, Anne Louise MacLellan, Sydney, Meaghan MacLellan, Calgary, Jessica Cameron, London, Ont. and nephew, Jaime Brewer, Fredericton. He was predeceased by his mother, Louise ‘Tuddie’ MacLellan in October, 2010. Joe entered the world the same night as Neil Armstrong walked on the moon (July 21, 1969) giving him a historical reference point that few people enjoyed. He graduated from the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS) in 1995 with a Bachelor of Computer Science and worked for several companies over the last 16 years in Ontario including Nortel and Entrust. He was presently employed with The Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC) in Ottawa as a systems architect. Computers were his passion and career but Joe had many varied interests including movies, science fiction, and sports like hockey and golf but he especially liked to fish as a boy and carried that love with him all his life. He was an avid supporter and season ticket holder of the Ottawa Senators and his house was littered with Senator’s jerseys and souvenirs. Joe never forgot where he came from and he wore so many Cape Breton shirts, hats, and jackets, that his co-workers used to refer to him as the Billboard from Cape Breton. He came home every year at Christmas and vacation to visit his parents. He was a caring and gentle soul who was generous to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know him. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass of celebration will take place on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating, interment will take place in the Mount Carmel Cemetery, a reception will be held in Joe’s honor immediately following at the KOC Hall, 3226 Plummer Ave., all are welcome.
