John Wayne Steiger

It is with broken hearts the family wishes to announce John’s passing on May 17, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of John ‘Pappy’ and stepmother, Diane (McKenzie) Steiger. John loved hunting, fishing and carpentry, but most of all enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He is survived by the love of his life, wife, Cheryl (Campbell); son, John (Shyloe); daughters, Amanda (Devin) and Jennifer (Ryan); grandchildren, Jonathan, Talyssa, Savannah, Devin and Danni-Lynn; sisters, Linda, Beverley, both of Alberta, Debbie (Joe), Dartmouth; brother, Billy (Cathy); mother-in-law, Mary Campbell; special cousin Donna as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Steiger.

Visitation:
Visitation will be held Friday, May 20 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.

Service:
A funeral mass to celebrate John’s life will be Saturday May 21 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard.Burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at the Army and Navy, Smith Street. Arrangements are under the direction of Mclellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. Donations can be made to the Heart & Lung Association.
