John Power

It is with deep sadness that we, the family of the late John Power announce his peaceful passing at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital on January 7, 2020.
Born Sept. 8, 1938 in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Patrick and Stella (MacPherson) Power.

John was a proud coal miner who worked in #’s 12, 16, 18, 26 as well as Lingan. He was very involved in the community, having been a member of the New Waterford Pensioners Club, the Saint Vincent De Paul Society, and the former Strand Committee.

When he wasn’t volunteering, John enjoyed playing darts, camping in Mira, and dancing with his loving wife Leona.

Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Leona, daughter Denise (Paul) White, son Greg (Judi), son in law John ‘Ticker’ MacIntyre, grandchildren: Amy (Eric), Crystal (Jason), Katie (Mike), Sarah (Nathan), Nicole (Ryan), Jonathan, and Joel, great grandchildren, Isla ,Camden, Lucas, Jack and Travis; brother in law Morley (Gerrie) Lever; sisters in law Margie Power and Doreen Power, along with many nieces and nephews who he loved dearly.

Beside his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Carol Anne Macintyre, sons Bradley and Morley, sisters; Jean Lemoine, Kathleen ‘Babs’ Hareguy, Theresa ‘Teacy’ Perfect, Maureen Chiasson, brothers; Cyril, Finlay, Joseph, Kevin, Pat, Leo, Brian, and Patricia and James in infancy.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2020 from 6-9 pm, with Funeral Mass on Monday, January 13, at 10 am in the Parish of Saint Leonard, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow in the Parish Hall on Convent Street.

Donations in memory of John can be made to the Saint Vincent De Paul Society or Cape Breton Palliative Care.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
