John Patrick Lovell

It is with broken hearts that we the family of John Patrick Lovell of Sydney River announce his peaceful passing at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on August 18, 2022, at the age of 77. Our loving and loved father, grandfather and brother Pat was the son of Verna and the late Horace Lovell. He grew up in a close family of brothers and sisters in Lingan.
Pat was a proud member of the U.A. Local 682 pipefitters union for over 40 years where his work ethic and attention to detail shown brightly and led him to supervisor roles in several large local piping projects and employment at Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd.’s Heavy Water plant in Glace Bay. Pat also owned and operated Lovell’s Esso in River Ryan with his wife Lynda for 17 years where he continued to make lifetime friends and earned the well- deserved respect of those around him like he had in the pipefitting industry.
Dad was one incredibly kind-hearted person who was always quick to lend a hand to anybody in need whether it was giving advice or support or performing some home or auto repairs for friends and family needing assistance. A perfectionist in all he did, Dad was also a particularly gifted autobody repairman and painter. A skill that he brought to his home renovations that led family members to jokingly comment that he had the smoothest most perfect interior home drywall of anyone in CBRM.
Family was everything to Pat, he was never happier then when spending time with his sons Ralph and Barry and their children as well as his siblings and brothers and sisters in law and his dear mother. He would always greet you with a smile and a big hug when you arrived on his doorstep, and he never wanted you to leave.
Pat is survived by his mother, Verna Lovell and his uncle and good friend, Bobby Barry. As well as his brothers George (Kay), Horace (Maureen) and sister Phyllis (David) Crombie. He is also survived by sister-in-law Carol Ann (Hughie) MacIntyre and Mary ( Hubert) Radoux and brothers in law Mike ( Pam) Moseychuck and David Schurman. Additionally, Pat is survived by his sons Ralph (Bernadette) and Barry (Danielle) and his dearly loved grandchildren, Connor, Maya, Sydney, and Wesley and by several nieces and nephews. Pat also leaves his friend Jerry Cormier to mourn his passing.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Lynda, who was the love of his life. He was also predeceased by his father Horace and his father and mother in law Mike “Millie” and Edna “Lassie” Moseychuck. Most recently he was predeceased by his sister in law, Judith Schurman.
A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff of the ICU at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for the care and compassion shown to our father during his brief illness.
Dad's passing leaves a big hole in the lives of all those who knew and loved him and big shoes to fill, but we can find comfort that he is now reunited with his beloved wife, and our mom Lynda, where he will reap the eternal reward of a life well lived.
