A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday Oct 6th at 10:00 a.m. in the parish of Saint Leonard with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating for the late John T. Prior who passed Sept 4, 2011 along with his loving wife, Gladys (Nearing) Prior who passed July 17, 2018. Interment in Mount Carmel Cemetery followed by a luncheon in the parish hall, Convent St., all are welcome.

Home at Last, Together Again.

John Thomas Prior, Jr., 89, of Framingham, formerly of New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada, died, Sunday, September 4, 2011 at Metrowest Medical Center, Framingham.

He was the husband of 70 years to Gladys K. (Nearing) Prior of Framingham.

Born in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada, he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Agnes (Clark) Prior.

Mr. Prior played semi-professional baseball and basketball in Nova Scotia and is also a member of the Cape Breton Baseball Hall of Fame. He worked as a coalminer in Cape Breton for the Dominion Coal Company in the #16 colliery

After coming to the U.S. Mr. Prior worked at Louis and Shepard in Watertown, and as a manager for over 30 years for Ionics, a Water Purification Company in Watertown

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd degree in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada, and the St. Anthony Daniel Post in Nova Scotia. He also enjoyed meeting at his favorite spot for coffee, Honey Dew Donuts in Nobscot.

Besides his wife Gladys, he is survived by his children, Peter “Sonny” Prior and his wife Kay of Nova Scotia, Katherine Cucchi and her husband Robert of Marlborough, Brenda Dangelo and her husband Richard of Framingham, Kevin Prior of Winthrop, Paula DeStefano and her husband Edmund of Clinton, Neva Carboneau and her husband Jim of Holliston, John G. Prior of Mendon and M. Karen Malloy and her husband Stephen of Laconia, NH. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and his sister Elizabeth “Betty” MacDonald of Watertown.

FRAMINGHAM- Gladys K. (Nearing) Prior, age 97, died peacefully, Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at St. Patrick’s Manor in Framingham.

Gladys was born on September 2, 1920 in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada to the late David and Mary (McIsaac) Nearing.

She was a loving wife of 70 years to the late John T. Prior, Jr. who died in 2011.

Following marriage, Gladys devoted her life to her family. While raising her 8 children, she developed a love for cooking and baking for them and through the years, passed her knowledge and recipes on to them. Gladys also was a wonderful seamstress and loved sports especially the New England Teams. She always looked forward to her summer trips “down home” to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia where she and her husband loved visiting with family and spending time at Dominion Beach.

She is survived by her children, Peter “Sonny” Prior and his wife Kay of Grand Mira South, Nova Scotia, Katherine Cucchi and her husband Robert of Marlborough, Brenda Dangelo and her husband Richard of Framingham, Kevin Prior of Winthrop, Paula DeStefano and her husband Edmund of Clinton, Neva Carboneau and her husband Jim of Holliston, M. Karen Malloy and her husband Stephen of Laconia, NH. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Vera Nearing of Vancouver, British Columbia and many nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late John G. Prior and sister of the late Mark, Cyril, Vertie, Mello, Ernie, John, David, Clare Murray, Collette Murphy, Blanche Boutilier, Frances MacDougal and Gertrude Bourgeois.
