John Bernard (Beanie) Maclean

We the MacLean family, heartbreakingly announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Beanie MacLean, on September 12, 2013 at the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen hospital, New Glasgow, N.S. Beanie was the son of the late Joseph F. and Tessie (Ryan) MacLean. He is survived by his wife, Sheila (Springall) MacLean, New Waterford, son Duane, Ont., daughter Denise, P.E.I., three grandchildren and three great grandchildren, brother Joey (Frances), New Glasgow, Ryan (Annette), Stellarton, Greg (Patricia) and sister Faith, Sydney River, also several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, who he thought the world of and loved dearly and they also shared these feelings toward him. He also leaves to mourn, his best friend since childhood, Barry Trenholm, Trenton, NS. Beanie was an avid baseball, hockey and golf fan and played these sports in his younger and healthier days. He was inducted into the New Waterford Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the New Waterford Giants Maritime Championship Baseball team from 1964-1965. He also loved washer toss and tried to rope anyone in his company into playing it and he retired undefeated. He could be a tad loud occasionally, but he was truly a giant teddy bear with a heart of gold. Those who really knew Beanie, also knew the kind of man he really was. Cremation has taken place under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Avenue, New Waterford and a chapel service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, September 21, 2013at 1 PM with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating, A get together will be held at 93 Parkwood Dr., Sydney River following the service for anyone wishing to attend. Weather permitting; washer toss games will be played.
