Howard Francis Jones

It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the untimely death of Howard Francis Jones on March 24, 2010, at his residence in Gardiner Mines. Born June 16, 1946, in Bayfield, N.B., he was the son of the late Ralph and Frances (Hoch) Jones. Howard spent 32 years with the RCMP; working within the province of Nova Scotia. Upon his retirement Howard came to Cape Breton where he enjoyed a simple life ' playing hockey, gardening, doing woodworking projects and spreading his love of animals as he rescued and nurtured our furry friends. He was always helping seniors and completing income tax for local people and could be seen at the local farmer's market every Saturday morning. Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife and very best friend, Florence (Smith); his daughters for whom he was most proud, Susan Jones, Ottawa, Ont., and Jennifer Jones, Vancouver, B.C.; stepsons, who loved Howard as father, Darnell (Laura) Young, New Waterford, Nolan (Jennifer) Young, Edmonton, Alta.; Taylor, his only grandchild, held a special place in his heart; sisters, Judy (Roger) Madage, Oshawa, Ont., Phyllis (Roger) Tingley, London, Ont.; brother, Richard Jones, Moncton, N.B.; brother in-law, Ronald Little Shemogue, N.B.; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and many great friends. Besides his parents, Howard was predeceased by his sister, Jackie, brothers, Russell and David. The family will receive friends and relatives from 2-5 p.m., Saturday, March 27 in McLellan Brothers Funeral Home Ltd., 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 29 at 11 a.m. in the Wesley United Church, Bayfield, N.B., with the Rev. William Drysdale officiating and interment will be in the Bayfield Cemetery.
