Geraldine Mary Macinnis

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Geraldine MacInnis, 86, a resident of Maple Hill Manor of New Waterford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born on August 31, 1923 in New Victoria, where she grew up, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Sybil (Petrie) Murphy. Geraldine was a veteran of the Second World War having served from 1939-1945 with the Canadian military. As a young girl she enjoyed swimming down at the cove and lighthouse in New Victoria. Geraldine was a loving mother and devoted wife. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Left to mourn her passing is her daughter, Sybil Allen, Denham Island, B.C.; sisters, Jacqueline (Hugh) MacManus, Mississauga. Ont., Claire Donahue, New Victoria, Carol (Tony) Mulder, Abbotsford, B.C.; brothers, Evans (Tillie) Murphy, Scotchtown, Thomas Murphy, Victoria, B.C.; her four loving grandchildren, Mary, Sean, BJ, Daniel ,Michelle and two great-grandchildren, Courtney and Caitlyn. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Elmer Madden, River Ryan and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many great friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her first husband Daniel Fraser father of her children; her second husband, Clarence MacInnis; her sons, Gerard and Joseph; brother, Delman and his wife, Kay; sisters, Norma and her husband Harvey Hyson, Theresa Madden, Sr. Claudia, White Sisters Of Africa, Sybil Ann, in infancy; brother-in-law, Bill Donahue. There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place, as per her request, under the direction of McLellan Funeral Home Ltd., 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, (862-7500). A funeral Mass celebrating Geraldine's life will take on Friday April 9th, 2010 at 10 am in the Parish Church of St. Leonard's ,Mount Carmel Ave, New Waterford with fr. Paul MacNeil officiating interment will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery New Victoria at a later date.
