It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Florence MacLeod, age 90, beloved mother grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, on Monday, April 6, 2020 at home with her family.
Born in River Ryan on September 14, 1929 Florence was the daughter of the late Anthony and Margaret MacPherson.
In 1950 Florence married John MacLeod and together they raised seven children. John passed away in 2010 just a few months away from their sixtieth anniversary.
Florence worked at the New Waterford Boys Centre, cooking meals for the young residents. She took great pride in knowing that the young boys enjoyed her meals as much as we did growing up.
Florence grew up on Ryan Street and after living in Toronto for a few years she returned to Ryan Street to raise a family. Her home was a gathering spot where family and friends shared stories, laughter and song. Memories of those days will last forever.
Nothing pleased our mother more than being at home. She was happy that her sisters also lived on Ryan Street, close to her.
We will miss having her with us, but we take comfort knowing that she is now with our father, John.
Florence is survived by her sons; Lawrence (Arlene), Johnny (Avian), Nipper (Judy), Bernie (Sandra) Neil, daughters; Debbie (John), Kim (Raymond) grandchildren; Tanya, Tara, Kimberly, Lindsay, John, Chris, Holly, John L., Lorenda, Aaron, Kyla, Lauren, Nolan, Kyle, Cara; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters; Christina ‘Tuddy’ MacIntyre, Janie MacKinnon, Rose MacMullin, Kaye Hanrahan, Isabel Meagher MacPherson, Mary Lizzie Macleod, and Mick MacKinnon who was like a brother to the family.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John, daughter in law Thelma, grandson Ennis, granddaughter Amanda, brother Tony, sister Margie MacDonald.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date and will be announced when social gatherings are permitted.
The family would like to say thank you to Dr. Ajuwon, Dr. D’intino, V.O.N. nurses, Laura Lee Gillis and the home care workers who helped to comfort our mother through her final days. Thank you to Debbie Wingate for her guidance through this difficult time.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
