It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing on January 14, 2023, of Everett John Durdle, age 85, at home surrounded by his loved ones. Everett was the second son of 11 children born on January 23, 1937, to Patricia (Samuels) and Everett Durdle.
Everett was a hard-working family man who was a proud coal miner. He worked in #12 and #16 collieries for 26 years. He also worked for Sweeney’s Construction as a heavy machine operator for 22 years. During his retirement, Everett was active in the Army & Navy Airforce where he served two terms (4 years) as president. He spent many hours playing tarbish, washer toss, horseshoes, and fishing with his friends and family. As well as enjoying numerous trips with Alice to their summer home in Grand Mira. Everett also enjoyed the company of Cubby, Joe Henry, Jerome Burke, Dan McPhee, Fred Bailey, and Jookie Brenna in “his garage”.
Everett is survived by his loving wife Alice, whom he adored, his children Rose Marie, Michelle, Kim (Brad) and Alice’s children who he loved as his own; Karen, Stevie (Sylvia), Francis (Cynthia), Darren (Paulette), Tammy (Gerard). He also leaves to mourn his passing his siblings Donnie (Sheila) Durdle, Jean (Buddy) Hoffman, Fred (Judy) Durdle, Billy (Judy) Durdle, Judy (Bob) Greene, Brenda Pastuck and sister-in-law Sheila (Roy) Mercer and .33 grandchildren & great grandchildren and Cubby Hannigan who resided with them for 25 years as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers; Nelson and Wally, sister; Joyce, sister in infancy, his son Donnie, and grandson Everett. Also, sister and brothers-in-law Audrey Durdle, Jackie Crane, and Stephen Pastuck.
Special thanks to the many people who provided comfort to Everett during his illness. The doctors and nurses at the Cancer Centre, Dr. Lange, VON, Harding Medical Staff, Palliative Care, and Home Care.
Cremation has taken place. A chapel service and celebration of Everett's life will be held in McLellan Funeral Home 3181 Plummer Ave, New Waterford on Saturday, January 21st at 10 a.m. with Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. There will be a luncheon following the service at the New Waterford Army, Navy, Airforce Unit 217, Smith St. the family invites all to attend.
