It is with a heartfelt sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Ethel Agnes McGillivray, 84, of New Waterford, NS, on Tuesday, July 14th, 2021, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Born Sept. 1, 1936, in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Duggan) Carrigan. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In her early years Mom worked at Gaffins grocery store, then the Old New Waterford Hospital and BEC, as part of the maintenance staff. In retirement Mom became actively involved in the Pensioner's Club, serving as President for over 25 years, and activities such as the Dart League, Tarbish, and monthly dances.

Left to mourn are children, Joey and Bobby (Mary), grandchildren, Shantell (Travis), Joey, Stacey, Joshua, Nicholas (Brittany), Cody, and great-grandchildren James and Floyd.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Alex (Eckie) Raymond; sons Blair and Leonard.


Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 20, from 10am – 12pm, with a chapel service at 12 pm, with Deacon Lorne MacNeil officiating. Covid restrictions will apply, and seating is limited. Burial will take place in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
