Edmund 'Ted' George

With broken hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our cherished husband, father, brother and grandfather at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital on October 1, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Robert and Alice George. Dad was a member of the Canadian Forces (Black Watch) for 3 years, returned to Cape Breton to work in various coal mines for 35 years until his retirement due to illness. Dad also was a lobster fisherman. Until recently, he would take a drive to New Victoria to watch the power of the ocean that he loved. Before his illness, on nice fall days he loved to spend time with his sons and other family members for a day of hunting and also enjoyed a good game of cribbage. He took great pleasure in the family visits, especially the little ones, his eyes would always brighten when the babies were present. Ted is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Christina and granddaughter Tammy (at home), daughter Linda (Archie)MacDonald, Gardiner Mines; sons David (Millie), Vince (Shelly), New Victoria, Brian (Elaine), Stephen (Sheila), Kevin (Judy), New Waterford, and Harold-Whitey (Lonna), Cole Harbour; brother Kenny (Marge), New Victoria and sister Edith Martin, Sydney. Grampy/Poppy will be sadly missed by his 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and extended family members. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother Robert, sister Dorothy and granddaughter Brittany. As per Ted's request, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 862-7500. Donations may be made to the Lung Association or a charity of choice.
