Douglas Joseph MacDonald78, New WaterfordIt is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the sudden passing of Douglas Joseph MacDonald, 78, of New Waterford, on Sunday, Dec. 26,2010, at home.Born in New Waterford, Nov. 13, 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph and Annie Mae (Power) MacDonald.He was a member of the Parish of St. Leonards. Douglas was a retired coal miner who worked in the #12, 16, 18 and Lingan collieries. He was a quiet man, who enjoyed being around his family and friends. He and Marion were never apart always together, and you rarely saw one without the other.Douglas is survived by the love of his life, wife and best friend, Marion (Campbell) MacDonald; special children, Kenneth Campbell, Matthew Campbell and Sherri Curley (Steve); special grandchildren, Hannah and Garret Curley; sisters, Doreen MacDonald and Esther MacDonald; brother, Bernard; sister-in-law, Sadie, Rena, Mary, Susan Campbell (Rob), Winnie Gatza; brother-in-law, Leo Campbell as well many nieces, nephews and numerous friends.Besides his parents he was predeceased by his daughter, Cheryl Ann, father and mother-in-law, James and Sara Campbell, sisters, Catherine, Vera, brother, Cyril and wife Ann, brothers-in-law, Art, Gerald and Dan Campbell, Bernard Oliver, Peter Gatza and Alexander MacDonald, sister-in-law, Dorothy Oliver.There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A funeral Mass of celebration will take place Friday, Dec. 31 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonards, with Fr. Douglas MacDonald officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. A luncheon will be held in Douglass honour immediately following at the Parish of St. Leonards Hall, 310 Convent Street, all are welcome.Donations can be made in Douglass memory to the Maple Hill Manor or the CNIB.
