It is with great sadness the family of Douglas Patrick Petrie regretfully announce his passing on May 7th, 2013, peacefully with family by his side in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, NS. He is survived by his father Walter, sisters, Trish, Truro; Janet (Vernon) Lord, Washington; brothers Walter Jr. (Donna) and Gerald (Darlene), both of New Waterford. Doug is also survived by nieces Carrie, Natasha, Amanda, Kristin and Petra; nephews Jor-El, Riel and Nelson; honorary grandson Nathan and extended family members Benjamin, Emma and Sophie. He is predeceased by his mother Christina Petrie (MacDonald). Living life large, he was a loyal member of the Carpenters Union of Ontario. He lived a gregarious life by starting in the trades at a very young age, traveling Canada-wide. His home was where he hung his tool-belt. His trademark expression “the whole nine yards” usually meant a long-long distance phone call complete with a million laughs. He played monopoly with wild abandon sparing no mercy- even to his family. His Canada-wide circle of friends literally from coast to coast will miss him. His memories, however, will live long with his friends, especially after steak and beer on the back deck. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 9th, 2013 from 7-9 pm and a mass to celebrate Doug’s life will be held Friday, May 10th,2013 in the Parish of Saint Leonard at 10 am with Father Ray Huntley officiating followed by a luncheon at the parish hall, Convent St. All are welcome. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 862-7500. In lieu of flowers, donations in Doug’s name can be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital. To send online condolences go to: www.mclellanfuneralhome.com
