Donna Maria Cummings (née MacNeil), of New Waterford, NS died in her home, surrounded by her family on August 1, 2016. She was 65 years old.
Donna is survived by her husband, Tom; her five children: Michael (Cindy) Cummings, Christopher Cummings, Robert (Melanie) Cummings, Colin Cummings, and Sharon (Sean) Higgins; her grandchild, Henry Cummings; and her siblings Debbie (Brian) Morrison, Sharon (Donnie) MacKay, Janet (Warren) MacEachern, and Arthur MacNeil. She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Marie MacNeil.
Donna was born on January 3, 1951 in New Waterford. She grew up in Scotchtown and graduated from Mount Carmel High School. She met her husband of 42 years, Tom, in August 1970. As the wife of an RCMP Officer, she worked a variety of jobs as the family moved around the country. Her life's work was raising her five children who she loved dearly.
Donna was a skilled craftswoman and loved quilting with the "Coal Town Girls Quilting Group", especially her friends Ruth Dupe and Cathy Matlock whom she considered as sisters. She loved gardening, walking on the sandbar, and watching sunsets at Fort Petrie.
Donna passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer. Her family remembers her as a loving and caring woman, and she will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, and a celebration of Donna’s life will be on Thursday, August 4 at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A reception will follow at Unit #217 of the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans, Smith Street, all are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Food Bank/St. Vincent de Paul Society.
