On Tuesday, February 25, 2019, Donald Raymond Rockett, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 80.
Ray was born on December 4, 1938 in New Waterford to Tom and Ellen (Hicks) Rockett. He spent a short time in the military, worked for Good Year Tire in Ontario, and spent the rest of his career working for DEVCO as a miner.
He met and married Gwen Pheifer while living in Ontario, together they moved back to New Waterford in 1966, where they raised their daughter Alma. Ray had a passion for hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He loved going for morning drives to Lingan wharf with his dogs and spending as much time outdoors as he could.
He is survived by his wife Gwen, daughter Alma (Joe) Pastuck, grandchildren Jennifer and Todd, great- grandchild Ariah; sisters; Helen (Charles), Shirley (Bill), Mary (Gerry), Marilyn (Eugene), Ruth (Richard), and Alice., as well as many special cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Beatrice (Michael), Frances (Charles) and his brothers Harry (Adeline), Alvin (Eileen), John (Agnes), Frank ‘Con’ (Sally), Fred ( Carmella) and Thomas.
We would like to thank the staff of the VON along with all the Doctors and Nurses of the Nova Scotia Health Authority who provided such wonderful care of him over the past few years.
Cremation has taken place and a chapel service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2019, 11 A.M. at McLellan Brothers Funeral home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, followed by a luncheon at the KOC., Plummer Ave., and all are welcome.
