Today we said goodbye to a very kind and gentle husband, father, grandfather, uncle and cousin, Donald Fraser McPhee who passed away at home surrounded by family and friends after a lengthy illness.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of Francois Murdock and Mary Louise (Pottie) McPhee from River Bourgeois. After the death of his parents, he was raised by Ambrose and Mary Webber of South Bar. He was married for 58 years to Mary C. MacKenzie, daughter of Angus and Francis MacKenzie from New Waterford. He worked on the lake boats for 36 years.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter Gabriella (Ian), Arizona; sons Donald (Patricia) John (Patricia), both in New Waterford, Stephen (Conni) and Malcolm (Lindsay), both in Halifax. He is also survived by grandchildren Jennifer, Nicole, David, Bobby, Jordan, Stephani, Kassi, Mya, Marley Rose and Penny Violet, along with a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister Elizabeth, Kate, Emmeline and Emmabelle, also brothers Leonard and Eliard. He was also predeceased by Ambrose, Mary, and Hillary Webber of South Bar.
We would like to thank the staff of the New Waterford Hospital, Dr. Azer, the Victorian Order of Nurses, and the paramedics. Also thanks to Jerome Mackenzie and Therese Rich for always being there to help.
Visitation will take place on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 6-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 10 am in the Parish of St. Leonard with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the K.O.C, Plummer Ave, all are welcome. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
