Dolores Anna Fraser

With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother Dolores Anna (Ryan) Fraser, 90 of New Waterford.

It was only fitting that our Mother, as the foundation of her family, was surrounded by us as she went to be with her beloved Lord. Her passing was dignified, peaceful, and graceful, just as she lived her life.

Our Aunt Marilyn, as our Mother so lovingly referred to her as baby sister, played roles as best friend, confidant, and casino partner. She led our family in prayer to make our Mother’s wish come true: a final Rosary here on Earth. When done, Mother smiled and went to be with God, where she was joyously welcomed by her dear preceded Momma and Papa Ida (Tighe) and Barney Ryan, and her siblings Herman, Barney, Peg Lynch, Tessie MacLean, Jerry, Terrance, Ida Coady, Lucius, Vicki MacDonald, Lovie Janega, Greg, Vange Gaudet, Shirley MacNeil, and Tony Ryan.

Mother is survived by her sister Marilyn Ryan; her daughters Marilyn Ann and husband Alex Ruelland, Danielle and husband Paul Kelly, and Neila and partner Bradley Cameron; and her baby and only son, born on her birthday, Christian and wife Lindsay Fraser. She is also survived by her grandchildren Kristin and husband Roger MacIntyre, Devin and wife Emily Bednarz-Ruelland, Kaila and Rebecca Kelly, and Brenden and Jacob Fraser, as well as her great-grandchildren Rory and Isla MacIntyre and Arthur Bednarz-Ruelland.

For the majority of her life, our Mother lived in New Waterford, where she was never seen without her stylish clothes and high heels. She was well known for her culinary skills, having worked at Maple Hill Manor, Spring Garden Villa, and Simeon's. She prepared meals that were like a warm hug. Turkey dinners, cabbage rolls, and lasagna were always in demand. And her pork pies — oh, how we will miss those pork pies.

Mother was a faithful servant to her church serving for many years on the Catholic Women's League and as a Eucharistic Minister, at Saint Agnes Parish, and at what is now the Parish of Saint Leonard's, where she felt she gained a new family of brothers and sisters.

We may have made her a Mother, but her grandchildren gave her a favourite name: Dody. She wasn't just a grandmother; Dody was an experience, with endless supply of smiles, love, kindness, and acceptance. All six of her grandchildren enjoyed daily lunches with Dody while attending BEC, where the menu was as good as a five-star restaurant. Dody often left handwritten messages of love and encouragement next to their meals. Her grandchildren never had to be the best for Dody — they just had to do their best.

In her personal handwritten prayer book is the quote, "The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook." It embodies Mother's essence; she never complained or judged. She made everyone feel the same — special and loved — building unique relationships with all, especially nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors on Friday,  April 21, in McLellan Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral mass will be held in the Parish of Saint Leonard Church, Mount Carmel Avenue, on Saturday, April 22, at 10 a.m. with Fr. Godwin Obike officiating.  Following the mass, a private burial service for family and close friends will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery, New Waterford. A reception is to follow at The Army Navy Airforce Unit 217, Hall, New Waterford. You may visit the Tribute Wall to share words of comfort and express your sympathy directly to the family.
