Wilkie, David ‘Dave’ Daniel

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of David ‘Dave’ Wilkie, announce his passing on Saturday, February 29th, 2020 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.

Dave was born on February 21st,1939, and was the son of the late Hector and Margaret (McDonald) Wilkie.

For 55 years, you could find Dave at his barbershop in New Waterford, where folks came in to be entertained, and left with a haircut as a bonus. His love for the Toronto Maple Leafs was obvious, at the concern of his family, who all cheer passionately for opposing teams. He was a member of the New Waterford Fish and Game Association and belonged to the Lions Club. Dave enjoyed listening to music, square dancing with the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Elsie, and travelling across Canada. Dave had a huge heart; he loved, and was loved by, his family.

He is survived by his wife Elsie (Purdy) Wilkie; his son Gordon (Paula) Wilkie, and grandchildren Robyn and Mark (Lower Sackville, NS); son Steven (Alicia) Wilkie, grandchildren Ryan, Carter and Dylan (Windsor, ON); sister Ethel (Ronnie) Gaylor (Chateauguay, QC); brother Francis (Joanne) Wilkie (Stevensville, ON); sister Margaret Langford (Cobourg, ON); Sister-In-Law Shirley Wilkie (Glace Bay, NS); Brother-In-Law Raymond Purdy (New Waterford, NS).

Dave was predeceased by his parents, and brother Jackie Wilkie.

The family welcomes you to join them to celebrate his life and share stories on Tuesday, March 3rd, at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, for a visitation from 12pm to 2pm. A Chapel service will take place at 2pm, with Reverend Duncan Roach officiating, followed by a luncheon at the K.O.C. on Plummer Avenue.
