David Frederick McLellan 69, Lingan – We regret to announce the passing of Dave McLellan, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother. Dave passed peacefully with family by his side at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Jan. 23rd, 2023. The son of the late Gord & Rosalie McLellan of Lingan.
David started his career as so many here have, as a miner and worked many years underground in Lingan Colliery. When the mine closed, he went onto a career in book keeping / accounting, but often said he would go back tomorrow if they re-opened.
He was well known in the community and was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Most of us can say we know a hockey fan but to say David was a fan was a gross understatement. He was the Ultimate Bruins Fan, he never missed a game and stayed true to ‘his team’ all these years. The sound of ‘He Shoots He Scores!” and the Hockey Night in Canada Anthem will always bring back fond memories of many hours spent cheering on or sometimes yelling at the players on the tv.
Dave enjoyed the home that he and his wife Colleen built in Lingan, he took great pride in his yard, planting and tending to it over the years adding this tree or that shrub and many brightly colored flowers to it each year, there was no such thing as ‘too many’ when it came to flowers. He was a kind man and when we recall him to our minds that special smile always stands out, a joke and a quick laugh and he was on his way.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 43 yrs. Colleen ( Poirier) ; daughter Yvette ; son Jeffrey ( Britney); brother Bill ( Helen) ; sisters Kathy and Anne ( David); grandsons Cameron and Linden, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. David will be kindly remembered and missed by his family and many close friends.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by his sister- in -law Jacqueline Poirier; brother- in-laws Don Bowering and Chubby McLeod.
The family would like to send a sincere thank you to all whom helped provide care to David over the years ; Dr. MacMullin and Bernice Grant, The VON and the staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, your care and compassion were of great comfort to us during such a difficult time.
If you so wish donations may be made in Dave’s honor to the Canadian Diabetes Association

After Glow
I’d like the memory of me,
To be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow
Of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo,
Whispering softly down the ways.
Of happy times and laughing times,
And bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
To dry before the sun.
Of happy memories that I leave,
When life is done.
