It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the death of Dana John (Jack) McCabe on October 17, 2018 peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 17, 1954, he was the son of the late John and Florence (Quinn) McCabe of South
Bar.
Dana went to Riverview High School in his early years and the Cape Breton Vocational School where he took a welding course that became his passion. He worked for many local companies earning the respect of many of his colleagues. An avid sports fan, Dana played hockey and softball with local teams and spent a great deal of his time sports fishing with his best friend Stuart Quinn. He loved his Detroit Red Wings and was able to get to a
few games with his son Carmen.
A loving husband, father, papa, brother and friend, Dana leaves behind his loving wife of 36 years, Cheryl Pezzerello Tighe; his chosen children Carmen (Betty) and Renee (Bruce) MacKenzie; brothers Gary (Shirley), Shaun (Bev), Tom (Anita) and sisters Heather, Denyse (TC), Wendy (Stan), Janine (John) and Leanne (Wes); precious grandchildren Kyle MacKenzie, Ally McKenzie, Katelin MacKenzie and Alan Tighe; brothers-in-law Carmen, Derek (Valerie), Eddie (Amanda); sisters-in-law Joyce (Rick), Debbie (Catherine), Alma (Ray), Darlene (Robert), Elaine (Peter), Audrey (Ron), Wendy (Brian), Lorraine (Len);
his chosen mother-in-law Polly Tighe; special niece Alicia Paul-the worlds best baker and many other beloved nieces and nephews.
Dana was predeceased by his parents, brothers Derek and Brian; father and mother-in-law Buddy and Joyce Pezzerello; sister-in-law Georgina, chosen father-in-law Tommy Tighe; his nephew Jason and sister-in-law Judith Anne Tighe.
His daughter Renee was his angel at the end. There are no words or sentiments that can properly describe the love and dedication of this young nurse. She was his caretaker to the end, ensuring he was comfortable while managing to be a mother, daughter and nurse.
There will be no visitation, a chapel service will be held at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500 on Sunday, October 21st at 12:30 P.M with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating followed by a luncheon at the K.O.C., Plummer Ave., all are welcome. Burial in St. Alphonse Cemetery, Victoria Mines.
