Colleen Marie Kane
New Waterford

It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Colleen Marie Kane, announce her passing on March 17, 2021, at home, after a brief illness. Colleen spent many years away before returning to her beloved Cape Breton six years ago.

Colleen was an avid dart and crib player, and also played a mean game of tarabish. She was a member of the Army, Navy Branch 217 and the New Waterford Royal Canadian Legion for which she willingly volunteered, but what she loved most of all was time spent with her family.

Colleen is survived by her mother Marie Coish; sons William (Carmella), Walter (Connie); stepchildren Laura, Patrick, and Michael Kane; brothers Bruce (Fanny) and David Carrigan; sister Laurie Carrigan (Kevin); stepsisters Marie, Louise, Diane (Tony); stepbrother Eddie (Debbie). She also leaves behind three granddaughters; Amanda, Christina, Chantelle, four great-granddaughters, many nieces and nephews, including her “favourite” niece April McIsaac.

Colleen was predeceased by her father Bernie Carrigan; stepfather Clarence Coish; brothers Paul (in infancy) and Steve Carrigan. She was also predeceased by the love of her life Jim Kane (Kelowna, BC), whose daughter Laura came from Summerland BC to care for Colleen in her final months. Colleen dearly missed Jim until the day she died. We take tremendous comfort in knowing they are together again for eternity.

At her request, there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.

Butterflies from Heaven
When a butterfly comes to you,
I’ve been told,
That it’s from someone
In Heaven, a past soul.
If you keep a look out,
if you open your heart
The things that were ordinary
will now stand apart.
I think if we look,
read between the lines,
You will find clues
and you will find signs,
That your loved one isn’t past,
not really, not gone,
That they are not here,
that they have just moved on.
It is said there is not death,
Just life and transitions,
From the teachings of Buddha
to the belief of Christians,
So, from my heart,
From my hope and belief,
May you find many Butterflies,
To assist with your grief.
