Clare Jessie Gouthro
It is with great sadness that we, the family, of Clare Jessie Gouthro, announce her passing on October 31, 2020, at the age of 87. Born in South Bar, she was the daughter of the late George and Annie (Halloway) Drover, and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In her younger years, Jessie loved to sing and play guitar on CBC Radio. She loved to travel and took many trips to Nashville. She worked at the former General Instruments Plant before moving to Ontario where she worked for the Red Cross. She eventually retired and moved back to Cape Breton. She was a huge fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs as well as the Toronto Blue Jays.
Jessie is survived by her sons Jimmie (Janice) of Mira, Darin of New Waterford; grandchildren Ian, Jillian, Andrew, Jennifer, Justin, David, Elisa, Breanna, Bailey; great grandchildren Deven, Ethan, Lochlan, Sebastien, Brooklynn, Riley, Beau, Blake; son in law John Jurcina; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her daughters Nancy Gouthro, Murdina Jurcina, and one daughter in infancy; sisters Gertrude, Ivy, Mary, Jean, Louise; brothers Jim, Bill, Carl.
Cremation has taken place and a chapel service will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 2:30 pm, with Reverend Myrna MacMullin officiating. Masks and social distancing are required. Interment will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. Donations in Jessie’s memory can be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care Fund.
