It is with tremendous sadness and broken hearts, we the family announce the peaceful passing of Charles Nearing on Monday, September 13, 2021, at his home away from home, Maple Hill Manor. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Brother, and Uncle.
Born in New Waterford, NS, on July 27, 1932, he was the son of the late James and Annie (Gallant) Nearing.
Charlie was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, having been stationed in Kingston, Ontario, for several years. Upon his departure from the forces, he worked at Stanfield’s in Truro, NS, and then went on to spend 32 years as a coal miner. Charlie was an honorary member of the New Waterford Fish and Game Association and was awarded a Lifetime Membership for outstanding service. He was passionate about nature, loved fishing and hunting (and the people he got to do these things with), gardening and photography. He was also a featherweight boxing champion.
Charlie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marie (Wilson); son Curtis (Ingrid) Nearing; daughters Loretta (Brian) Hawley, Kim Nearing, Charlene (Craig) MacNeil; 10 wonderful grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; brother Raymond; sisters Jean, Carolyn, Anna; his dog Molly; his special fishing buddy, Raymond Woods.
Besides his parents, Charlie was predeceased by his sons Charles and Michael; brothers Henry, Myles, Jimmy; sisters Utah and Violet.
Now Charlie is re-united with his sons, leaving behind wonderful memories for his family and friends to cherish.
Special thanks to the staff at Maple Hill Manor for the wonderful care you provided to Charlie, as well as Home Care, VON, and palliative care for looking after Charlie for 2 years at home.

Charlie did that with many people. ‘ Till we meet again, - you were the love of my life and my best friend.’
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Friday, October 1, 2021, from 1-2pm. A chapel service will be held at 2pm, with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Army, Navy & Airforce on Smith Street, New Waterford.
