It is with profound sadness, the family of Lorrine Williams, 86, of New Waterford, N.S., announce her passing on July 24, 2021, at home, surrounded by those she loved the most.

Born on May 18, 1935, in Glace Bay, N.S., Lorrine was the eldest of 13 siblings. She was raised by the late Marie and Jules Brenna.

Lorrine was a master bridge player, and she enjoyed a game four times a week. She also enjoyed a good game of poker and a laugh with her long-time club members. In her younger years, Lorrine loved to travel with her late husband and the love of her life, John. Shopping was her favorite past time, which she often did with her daughter and granddaughters.

Family was the most important part of her life, which she instilled in her children and grandchildren. As she lived with her daughter Liza for 21 years after she was married, she spent countless hours watching her grandson Andrew play hockey on his backyard rink, as well as listening to her granddaughter Lauren playing songs on the piano and performing her highland dances. Lorrine was “blessed” with many wonderful grandchildren, and she shared a unique and special relationship with each of them. She also had an extraordinarily strong bond with her 2 sons Jill and Joey, and she was always their go to person for guidance and direction.

She is survived by her children, John ‘Jill’ (Valerie), Joey (Marcie), and Liza (Glen). Lorrine was cherished and loved by her grandchildren, Trevor, Hilary, Victoria (Steve), Laurel (Tyler), Johnathan (Sherene), Emilie (Ty), Darcy, Lauren, Andrew, and chosen grandson Johnathan McLeod, and her great granddaughter Elsie. Besides her immediate family, Lorrine is also survived by her siblings; Betty (Wayne), Tony (Judy), Jerry ‘Jookie’, Phonse (Marion), Donald (Margaret-Ann), and sisters in law Pierette and Becky, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Lorrine was predeceased by her loving husband John, and her pride and joy and first-born granddaughter Jennifer. She was also predeceased by her father Sylvain Brenna; siblings Germaine, Sylvia ‘Bugsy’, Johnnie, Sylvain ‘Cat’, Henry, Eddie, and Carmel in infancy.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, from 7-9pm at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home. A funeral mass to celebrate Lorrine’s life will take place on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at 10am in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating . Due to capacity limits, funeral mass will be by invitation only. In lieu of flowers and food graciously being sent to the family home, it is respectfully requested donations be made to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, or a local food bank. In honour of Lorrine, donations can also be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave, New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
