It is with great sadness the family wish to announce the passing of their mother, Lizzie Copan on December 9, 2011 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Inverness, and the last surviving member of her family, she was the daughter of the late Angus and Catherine (O'Brien) MacDonald. At one time Lizzie was a member of St. Michael's C.W.L and the New Waterford Pensioner's Club, loved a good game of cards and was an avid Blue Jays fan. She is survived by son's Bernie, Clarence, Elliott, Hugh; daughters Mary, Alberta, Charlene and Beth, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great,great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, Clarence Joseph Copan, Lizzie was also predeceased by her brother, Hughie 'Shortie' MacDonald. As per her request, cremation has taken place and a funeral mass to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13th at 10 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Father Victor Ozousuanya officiating and interment in St. Michael's Cemetery. Luncheon to follow at the K.O.C., Plummer Ave. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500 Donations can be made to the Palliative Care Unit, C.B.
