It is with broken hearts we announce the peacefully passing of a wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother, Cassie Pilon, on Aug. 8, 2015, at the palliative care unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her loving family present.
Born in Port Hood on Aug. 12, 1922, she was the daughter of the late John-Malcolm and Mary MacDonald. She was a member of Saint Leonard's Parish.
Cassie was a lady with a big heart. She cared deeply for her family including daughters, sisters, brothers, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to shop, and was an excellent cook and baker, and was loved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Cassie is survived daughters, Barbara Gillis, Judy (Russell) Fraser, Sheila MacEachern, Denise (Donald) Morrison, all of New Waterford; her grandchildren Tammy, Danette, Michael, Raymond, Melanie, Haley; great grandchildren, Jeremy, Brooklyn, Bhreagh, Joseph, and Blake; sisters Catherine Nemis, Alma Rame, Maurina MacLean and brother Jerome MacDonald. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Beside her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Denis, brothers John Angus, Archie, Frank, Colin; sisters Margaret (in infancy), Rachel, Christina, Annie and Cecilia, as well as great granddaughter Rebecca MacKinnon.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015, from 2-4 p.m., and 7-9 p.m., and chapel service on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment in St. Michael's Cemetery, followed by a luncheon in the Saint Leonard's Parish Hall, Convent Street. All are welcome.

Donations in memory of Cassie can be made to palliative care, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, or the Cape Breton Cancer Centre Patient Care Fund.
The family would like to thank Dr. Oei, Dr. Mark Sampson, and Dr. Andrew Jurneau, as well as the staff on 4B and palliative care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the Cape Breton County Homemakers, VON, and special friends Ann MacIssac and Marlene Abraham.
